About Good Habit Living
Good Habit Living is a resource for self-improvement
A way to share my strategies for living a healthy, happy, and efficient life based on a foundation of good habits.
Who is Rob Immella?
I’m a husband and father first and foremost.
If I had to describe myself both personally and professionally though, I’m a “specialized-generalist”. Meaning, I like to learn a lot about many different things instead of focusing on just one.
Most of my career I worked in information technology, and more recently I became a risk analyst.
I’ve always had many different interests, such as sports & fitness, mathematics, and music, and immersed myself in them, giving me a wide range of experiences.
That’s enough about me for now.
Let’s talk about you…

The Origin Story
Originally this site started out simply as a way for me to record and pass on life lessons to my son… to guide him to become a responsible and happy young man.
I love being his dad and feel a great weight of responsibility to teach him from both my successes and my failures.
He’s my “mini-me”!
Good Habit Living then took on a second purpose. It became a way for me to help others by sharing my expertise.
As I discussed my ideas with family and friends, I found that many were struggling with life issues that I had already found fixes for.
Why and How I Do What I Do
Over years of professional and personal experiences, I learned something about myself.
I BECAME AN EXPERT!
I became an expert at being organized and building good habits into my daily life.
This may sound very “general” (remember… “specialized-generalist” here) but this expertise is a common thread that winds its way throughout all aspects of my life, helping me find efficiencies and happiness.
So how do I do it?
Three Steps...
#1 Patterns & Solutions
- Seeing patterns or the “least common denominator” in situations helps me identify similarities between different situations.
- Seeing those underlying similarities allows me to find solutions to problems
#2 Processes & Organization
- Building a process around solutions makes them more repeatable and less “hands-on”
- Being well organized adds efficiency to all of your processes
#3 Teaching
- Sharing the processes and organization saves you the time and effort to identify the patterns and finding solutions.
My Journey
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY with my parents and older brother. We had a good family life and as a kid, I always liked keeping my room clean and kept my toys neat and organized. I still have all my He-Man figures and fully functional Castle Grey Skull!
I was fortunate that my parents stressed the importance of education and instilled good study habits in me.
When I was in high school I excelled both academically and athletically. A personal highlight… I pitched in the 1994 NYC baseball city championship in Shea Stadium!
Like many though, I sometimes didn’t feel like I fit in. I did well in sports, but wasn’t a “jock”. I did well in my classes but wasn’t a “nerd” (NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT! … Ref: Seinfeld).
When it was time for college, I turned down a baseball scholarship for an academic one to study mathematics (I know… why would anyone do that!?). I always enjoyed math and later in life realized that the critical thinking it demanded gave me a very structured approach to life.
After college, I began a 15+ year career in information technology and project management, which developed a process-based thinking and a nack for solving problems.
Scattered throughout my years, teaching has always been important to me. Whether as a math tutor in my college, as a Pace University adjunct professor of technology in my twenties, or just helping explain technology in my day-to-day.
More Recently...
Now that I’m an adult, I realize I have years of experience in making my life easier through being organized and finding efficiencies.
Over the years I’ve had friends and family look at me like I’m crazy for putting as much thought into my everyday life and mundane tasks, but once I show them how easy it is to maintain because I’ve made them habits, they realize I’m not so nuts after all!
Sharing my experiences lets me check off all the things I’m passionate about and help you at the same time… a Win-Win!
